We will arrive in Ortygia walking across a bridge, the Ponte di Santa Lucia, and there we will explore the best monuments, squares, alleys…In the historic center you can admire the ruins of the Temple of Apollo, the Piazza Duomo with a visit inside the Cathedral, the Arethusa fresh water spring. We will hike: the artisans' quarter, the fascist quarter and the Piazza Archimede with the Neoclassical Fountain of Diana. You can have the opportunity to admire one of the masterpieces of Caravaggio's: "The Burial of Saint Lucia" painted by the artist in 1608 on temporary loan in the Abbey Church of Saint Lucia in Piazza Duomo. Duration 3 hours excluding transfer by bus or by car from the archaeological site to Ortigia. The Regional Archaeological Museum Paolo Orsi is one of the most important in Europe, consists of five sections. The museum is housed in a modern building, designed by Franco Minissi and opened in 1988, and consists of a series of interconnected hexagons that allow for continuous and flexible gallery space. The permanent exhibition is housed on the entrance level and ranges from prehistory to the classical age. Highlights are the greek pottery, the Venus Landolina statue and the important ancient coins collection. This visit is scheduled guided tour of the area B: Greek colonization (Syracuse and Megara Hyblaea). The visitor will be able to entertain for visiting other areas. It’s dated in the III B.C. and it’s linked to the fortification walls built by Dionisio the tyrant. Archimedes contributed to built it. To visit the Castle Euryalus, we recommend hiking boots.
